The Mediterranean Green Pack for forests
Arboreal has launched the Mediterranean Green Belt, the largest restoration of forests along the Mediterranean. The Mediterranean is a region where forests suffer the most from climate change. Mediterranean forests are a unique heritage and one of the most important forests in the world. With the Mediterranean Green Pack you bring the forests back to life. The Mediterranean Green Pack includes taking care of young trees born alone from fallen seeds and still fragile or planting trees when there are none or not enough, implementing measures against fires, fighting soil erosion or building shelters and water points for animals. By joining the Mediterranean Green Belt you make a real difference for the forests of the Mediterranean. You protect nature and the climate. You take care of the most important thing we have: Life.
Restoring Mediterranean forests is urgent
Temperatures in the Mediterranean have risen by 1.3°C, more than the global average and 20% faster. 75% of forest fires in Europe take place in the Mediterranean. Fires are more violent, destroying millions of trees and animal life. Mediterranean forests are a hotspot of world biodiversity. One in five animal species in the Mediterranean is threatened with extinction due to forest loss.
Without its forests, the Mediterranean landscapes will disappear forever and the renowned Mediterranean agriculture will be more exposed to natural risks.
Make a real difference for nature and the climate
The Mediterranean Green Belt represents the largest restoration of forests along the Mediterranean and a major green infrastructure in southern Europe. We have already planted over 47 million trees and restored 75,000 hectares of forest, equivalent to 105,000 football fields, with the United Nations.
Restoring forest landscapes means giving life back to the ecosystem with all its trees—new and old—its soil vegetation and its biodiversity. Restored forests absorb more CO2 and are more resilient to the impact of climate change.

For a greener world and the climate
Join the restoration of 8 million hectares of forest in the Mediterranean, representing more than 5 billion trees, led by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
PRIORITY FOREST RESTORATION
Priority sites for forest restoration are selected in collaboration with the environmental department of each region and according to the World Resource Institute map and the ESRI geographic information system.
WE ALL DEPEND ON FORESTS
FORESTS NEED US ALL
Protecting nature is the best way to invest in the future
“Global challenges like climate change, the unprecedented loss of biodiversity, and the spread of devastating pandemics are sending a clear message: it’s time to fix our broken relationship with nature.” Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission
