An artificial island to produce massive wind energy

Denmark will construct the world’s first wind-energy hub in the North Sea. Until now, offshore wind farms have been constructed as individual non-connected units. By deploying several connected offshore wind farms to a hub, it will create a green, offshore power plant that can distribute power to the surrounding countries. The energy hub in the North Sea will allow to produce renewable power at a previously unseen scale. The energy hub in the North Sea will be an artificially constructed island that can be connected to the power grids in countries around the North Sea.. It will collect energy from hundreds of offshore wind turbines and deliver it to European customers. In its first phase, the hub is expected to produce enough electricity to power 3 million households – and ultimately, enough for 10 million. Offshore wind energy in the North Sea holds a tremendous potential. In 2040, the deployment in the North Sea is estimated to reach 150 GW, which can meet the electricity demand of 150 million European households.
