Warming across the Mediterranean will be about 20 percent higher than world averages in the decades to come, according to a draft UN report, as the region is hit with devastating heatwaves, forest fires, water shortages, loss of biodiversity and risks to food production. The draft predicts that the rise of temperatures across the Mediterranean will threaten the region’s vital agriculture, fisheries and tourism sectors. More than ever, the world must agree on a drastic reduction in CO2 emissions and offset the emissions that will still be emitted.
