Barcelona is Unesco World Capital of Architecture

Barcelona has prevailed over Beijing. The assembly of the International Union of Architects (UIA), held in Rio de Janeiro, designated Barcelona as Unesco World Capital of Architecture 2026. The election is associated with the celebration of the UIA World Congress, which will have the slogan One today, one tomorrow and aims to highlight the capacity of architecture to transform and improve the quality of life of citizens, as well as the need to think of a more viable and sustainable future model. Barcelona is the headquarters of the Union for the Mediterranean, the largest organization, with 47 member countries, that promotes social, cultural, economic and environmental issues in the Mediterranean.
